Man City Want Ayyoub Bouaddi to Leave Rodri's Future

Manchester City will continue to try to reach an agreement with Ayyoub Bouaddi despite doubts about Rodri's future at the Etihad Stadium.

The Citizens are expected to make an offer for Rodri from Real Madrid after the LaLiga club have rekindled their interest in the midfielder following his performances for Spain at the 2026 World Cup this summer.

Manchester City remain keen to agree a new deal with the 30-year-old, who has just one year remaining on his current contract.

Enzo Maresca discussed Rodri's future in a press conference on Friday, July 31, 2026, local time, ahead of Manchester City's friendly against Inter.

"At the moment, it's just speculation. Rodri had surgery last Monday (27 July 2026), everything is fine. Now, he needs rest."

"The main focus after the season is the 2026 World Cup, now he is enjoying a break. We haven't had any talks (about a contract)."

"Any manager in the world wants Rodri because he is a top player. So, this is important for me, for the club, and for everyone," said the Italian coach.

Launching ESPN, Manchester City's interest in Bouaddi, one of the stars who shone at the 2026 World Cup with Morocco, is not related to Rodri's future.

The 18-year-old is considered a long-term target and there is a possibility he could arrive at the Etihad even if Rodri stays put after the transfer deadline.

Manchester City have contacted Bouaddi's club Lille and hope an agreement can be reached. If an agreement is reached, he could be included in Maresca's first team squad this season or loaned back to Lille for a year to continue his development in Ligue 1.
