Royal Caribbean Suspends Cruise Ship To Labadee Due To Violence In Haiti

JAKARTA - Cruise ship company Royal Caribbean suspended cruise ship stops in Labadee, on Haiti's north coast, as violence in the Caribbean nation escalates.

"The safety and security of the guests, crew of the ship, and the people we visited were our top priority," Royal Caribbean said in a statement to CNN.

"Our Global Intelligence and Security Team continues to monitor the evolving situation in Haiti, and with great care, we are temporarily making adjustments to the shipping that visit Labadee," the statement continued.

"We will continue to monitor and reassess the calls as needed, and will communicate the latest information with the guests directly," he said.

Royal Caribbean operates a private port in Labadee, which is about 130 miles (210 kilometers) from Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince.

Meanwhile, the nation's capital has been hit by violence between gangs since early March. And, the country is experiencing a political crisis.

Cruise ship company Royal Caribbean has been operating in Labadee since the 1980s. Judging from the company's official website, there are a number of choices of shipping packages to Labadee from Florida, United States at a varying price.

Royal Caribbean port is located on a peninsula north of Haiti and can only be accessed by guests and employees of the Royal Caribbean Group.
