Bawaslu Reveals 12,284 TPS For The 2024 Election No Tools To Help With Neutral Disabilities

Chairman of the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Rahmat Bagja said there were 12,284 polling stations that did not have tools for visual disabilities for the 2024 General Election.

"We convey that 12,284 polling stations have found netra-disability aids not available at polling stations," said Bagja in a Public Discussion on Dissemination of the 2024 Election Monitoring Results in Jakarta, Friday.

Then, around 5,836 polling stations, it was found that there were voters who were disabled who did not sign a companion statement letter or a C. KPU model support form.

"There are also polling stations that are difficult to access for friends with disabilities," he added.

According to him, the follow-up to the results of the supervision is to convey suggestions to the Voting Organizing Group (KPPS) to complete equipment in the form of a visually disabled device (braille template) at the TPS.

Then, complete the incomplete voting logistics before the start of the voting. Bagja also said that KPPS officers ensured that voters' assistants with disabilities would sign a companion statement letter.

"And also explain to voters, friends with disabilities who do not understand or do not understand the procedures for implementing voting and vote counting," said Bagja.

He said that this effort could be carried out by Bawaslu on D day of voting for the 2024 General Election. He admitted that the incident had been submitted to the KPU for follow-up.

Bagja emphasized that there must be improvements related to voting procedures. Moreover, there will be regional elections that will be held on November 27, 2024.

The Indonesian KPU has issued KPU Regulation (PKPU) Number 2 of 2024 concerning the Stages and Schedules for the Election of Governors and Deputy Governors, Regents and Deputy Regents, as well as Mayors and Deputy Mayors of 2024.

The following is the schedule for the 2024 Pilkada:

1. 27 February-16 November 2024: notification and registration of election monitors;

2. April 24-May 31, 2024: handing over a list of potential voters;

3. May 5, August 19, 2024: fulfillment of the requirements for support for individual candidate pairs;

4. May 31-September 23, 2024: updating and compiling of voter lists;

5. 24-26 August 2024: announcement of registration of candidate pairs;

6. 27-29 August 2024: registration of candidate pairs;

7. 27 August-21 September 2024: research on candidate requirements;

8. September 22, 2024: determination of candidate pairs;

9. September 25-23 November 2024: campaign implementation;

10. November 27, 2024: the implementation of the vote;

11. 27 November-16 December 2024: vote count and vote count recapitulation.
