Singaporean President And PM Write Congratulations Letter To Prabowo

JAKARTA - Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong wrote a letter of congratulations to the elected president of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto for his victory in the 2024 Presidential Election. "On behalf of the Singaporean people, I would like to express my sincere congratulations on your election as President of the 8th Republic of Indonesia," read President Tharman's letter as quoted from an official statement from the Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, March 21.

The President of Singapore said the strong mandate received by Prabowo showed the confidence and trust of the Indonesian people in his ability to lead Indonesia towards greater progress.

He also hopes that the strong relationship between Singapore and Indonesia, which is supported by close kinship and friendship, can continue to be maintained under the leadership of Prabowo Subianto.

"I am sure that under your leadership, Indonesia and Singapore will continue to be close friends and partners, as we work together to strengthen bilateral relations for the benefit of our people," he said.

Not to forget he also recalled his meeting with Prabowo in November 2023 in Singapore for the awarding of the Darjah Utama Bakti Cemerlang (Tentera) which acknowledged Prabowo's significant contribution in strengthening a close defense relationship and has long existed between Indonesia and Singapore.

"I'm really looking forward to our next meeting and welcoming you to visit Singapore soon. I hope you are healthy and successful," he said.

Similarly, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong through his letter said that Prabowo's election as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia was a strong and clear mandate from all Indonesian people.

Singapore and Indonesia, he continued, enjoy good and friendly relations. During Prabowo's career, the PM assessed that the Minister of Defense had made a significant contribution in improving close relations and cooperation between our two countries.

Personally, my colleagues and I really appreciate your good intentions and friendship, which was built while we work and work with each other in many ways over the last few decades. I appreciate our conversation over the years, and have always appreciated your insight into regional and global developments," he explained.

Through Prabowo's support as the next President of Indonesia, PM believes Singapore and Indonesia can build a strong basis for advancing bilateral relations for the benefit of future generations. Including cooperation in new fields such as a green and digital economy, sustainability, health services, and human resource development.

Regionally, there are many things that Singapore and Indonesia can achieve by working together to advance ASEAN's interests. I hope you get good health and success when you hold the highest position in this country. I hope to meet you soon again," he added.
