Deputy Baleg Suggests DPR Not Move To IKN, But Government Rejects

JAKARTA - The House of Representatives (DPR) has proposed to the government that there be a special decision for Jakarta to become a special area for the legislative capital. The council wants to remain based in Jakarta and not move to the capital city of the archipelago (IKN).

The proposal was conveyed by the Deputy Chairperson of the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR Achmad Baidowi (Awiek) during the final discussion of the problem inventory list (DIM) for the Draft Shrimp of the Special Region of Jakarta (RUU DKJ). However, the proposal was rejected by the government, represented by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) Suhajar Diantoro.

Awiek's proposal refers to the capital city formation scheme in several countries, which not only consists of one place, but also many places according to the branches of state power (trian politics).

The East Java electoral district PPP legislator gave an example, one of the countries implementing many capitals is South Africa. As is known, South Africa has three capitals, namely the executive government branch is in Pretoria, judiciary is in Bloemfontein, and the legislature is in Cape Town.

"There are several countries in the capital, not only one, South Africa there are three," said Awiek during a discussion meeting on the DIM of the DKJ Bill in the Baleg DPR, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday, March 18.

Therefore, the Secretary of the PPP faction suggested that the government and the DPR agree to include provisions stating that the Special Region of Jakarta is a legislative city in the DKJ Bill which is now just waiting for the ratification of level I.

"Sekali dibikin khususian bisa enggak enggak misalkan di DKJ termasuk juga kespecian menjadi ibu kota legislasi, parlemen. Artinya aktivitas parlemen bisa di IKN tapi pusat kegiatannya di DKJ," jelas Awiek.

Responding to Awiek's proposal, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Suhajar Diantoro, refused. He emphasized that the position of state institutions cannot only be government or executive in IKN, but must include the DPR as part of a legislative institution.

"Of course, while still respecting the opinions of friends, allow the government to have different opinions in this matter. According to the government, don't let us be there, we must be together with leaders in the context of a unitary state," said Suhajar.

Although Awiek said that his proposal had also been agreed upon by the DPD, the Ministry of Home Affairs still refused. Suhajar stressed that all government institutions will move to IKN.

"The government still wants us to move all of us there, indeed the concept is gradual leadership," said Suhajar.
