BANTEN - The Food and Drug Supervision Center (Balai POM) found food containing hazardous substances sold by traditional market traders in Tangerang.

Head of the Tangerang Regency POM Agency, Sony, said that his party found a number of types of foods containing harmful substances for health, such as formalin substances for takjil foods, as well as textile dyes in tofu foods.

"We found dangerous types of materials in two types of food, the first one was in takjil and tofu. But if we find two types of formaldehyde and dyes in tofu foods," he said in Tangerang, Friday, March 15, which was confiscated by Antara.

The discovery of this dangerous food was discovered after his party carried out a rapid examination of Ramadan operations in several traditional markets in the Greater Tangerang area.

As a result, of the dozens of food samples sold in several markets, BPOM officers found harmful substances for health mixed with these foods.

He revealed that based on the available data, the discovery of foods containing these dangerous substances was not the first time they had been found.

However, in the previous year a similar case was also found, so that currently it is still looking for the food producer.

"So we have found most of the cases in foodstuffs. And indeed the indication of material or hazardous substances is not from the seller, but from the source (producer) of the food manufacture," he said.

In this case, Balai POM Tangerang did not specify in detail the total number of items of food and takjil found containing these dangerous substances.

However, his party will carry out efforts to monitor and examine processed foodstuffs during this Ramadan.

"For the beginning of this fast, we are focusing on monitoring and checking curtains or manufacturers supplying all markets in Tangerang Raya. Every day there are officers who have dropped with a target of six facilities per day," he said.

After conducting the supervision, his party also provides education to traders regarding how to choose and manage food consumption that is safe and good.

"Every supervisory activity is always accompanied by socialization to traders and the public regarding how to choose food that is safe and quality by Cek KLIK (packaging, Label, Circular Permit, and Expired Permit) as well as on food safety," he said.
