KEDIRI - Class II A Prison officers in Kediri, East Java thwarted an attempt to smuggle drugs, namely methamphetamine and coplo pills. Smuggling is carried out by throwing drugs in black plastic into the prison area.

Head of Class II-A Kediri Prison Asih Widodo said prison officers succeeded in thwarting the smuggling attempt of 900 pills of coplo pills and 2.75 grams of powder suspected of crystal-meth.

"The smuggling took place Monday (1/3) afternoon, was carried out in a fairly gambling manner by throwing the illegal goods. From outside the wall to the brandgang area (inner wall area) of the prison," he said as quoted by Antara, Monday, March 1.

The prohibited items were wrapped in black plastic and found by prison officials. At that time, Teguh Imam staff of Kediri Prison Security Unit (KPLP) was cleaning the brandgang area.

"The officers found a suspicious package. Not wasting time, immediately reported the mysterious item to his superior," he said.

Once opened, the contents were quite surprising because there were 900 white pills (suspected to be double L/coplo pills) and three packages containing white powder with a total weight of 2.75 grams suspected of being a type of methamphetamine in them.

"We immediately reported the police for follow-up," said Asih.

This drug smuggling attempt was reported to the Head of Regional Office (Kakanwil) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of East Java, Krismono.

Kakanwil said the steps taken by officers in implementing SOPs were correct, so that there would be no problems in prisons. The image of prisons will also improve in the community.

"Continue to do good and in accordance with the SOP, we are sure that the prison/remand center will have zero halinar (cellphones, illegal fees, and narcotics)," said Krismono, conveyed by the Head of Kediri Correctional Institution.

Previously, in mid-February 2021, supervisory officers and block guards at Kediri Class II A Prison thwarted drug smuggling.

From the disclosure of the case, the officers then secured one perpetrator along with as much as methamphetamine evidence which was stored between the walls of the detention room.

The perpetrator has the initials DF from Surabaya. He was previously caught by raids by Kediri prison officers and the case was transferred to the Kediri Police.
