ACEH - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Simeulue District Attorney's Office (Kejari), Aceh Province, executed three convicts of violations of Islamic law with caning in public. The caning execution was centered in the courtyard of the Tgk Khalilullah Mosque, Air Cold, Simeulue Regency, Thursday, March 7. The caning was also witnessed by the local community. The three convicts who violated Islamic law who served the caning sentence, namely Aunudin, were sentenced to 35 lashes and Rizal Amin and Arismin with 15 lashes each. The convict Aunudin was found guilty of violating Article 16 paragraph (1) of Aceh Qanun Number 6 of 2014 concerning the law of jinayat. Meanwhile, Rizal Amin and Arismin were guilty of violating Article 16 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 6 paragraph (1) of Aceh Qanun Number 6 of 2014. The three were found guilty of committing a criminal act of khamar or liquor with punishment based on the decision of the Sinabang Sharia Court, Simeulue Regency. The head of the Simeulue District Attorney's Office, Yuriswandi, said that the implementation of the caning of the three convicts was after the decision of the Sharia Court had permanent legal force. "The three convicts who violated Islamic law in the khamar case, were sentenced to caning after cutting their prison terms in different numbers ranging from 15 to 35 times," said Yuriswandi as quoted by Antara. Meanwhile, the Head of the Civil Service Police Unit and Wilayatul Hisbah (Satpol PP and WH) of Simeulue Regency Novikar Setiadi said the caning was carried out in public.

"The execution of this whip can be witnessed by the public to create a deterrent effect for the perpetrators and the community, so that their actions are not imitated," said Novikar Setiadi.
