The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Rejang Lebong Regency, Bengkulu Province, said a number of sub-districts in the area were prone to landslides.

"Of the 15 sub-districts in Rejang Lebong, there are several sub-districts that are prone to landslides, including Sindang Pulau, Sindang Kelingi, Binduriang, then North Curup, Bermani Ulu, and Bermani Ulu Raya sub-districts," said Head of BPBD Rejang Lebong Shalahudin when contacted, ANTARA, Sunday, March 3.

He explained that the community who live in sub-districts prone to landslides should increase their vigilance considering the extreme weather that hit the area.

The extreme weather that has occurred recently, he said, has caused rain to fall with moderate to heavy intensity, so it is feared that natural disasters could occur at any time.

According to him, residents who live in landslide-prone areas if it rains with moderate and heavy intensity for a long time should temporarily evacuate to a safe place to prevent things that are not desired to happen.

Meanwhile, heavy rains that occurred on Friday-Saturday (1-2/3) yesterday caused landslides at 19 points in the Sindang Kelingi and Sindang Plateau sub-districts, however this incident did not cause any casualties.

"This landslide land occurred along Jalan Lintas Beringin Tiga, Sindang Kelingi District to Bengko, Sindang Pulanjung District. There were 19 landslide points, even several landslide material points covered the entire road so that traffic flow was paralyzed," he explained.

For the landslide incident in the Sindang Kelingi sub-district, he added, in addition to closing the road to Sindang Pulanjung District, the road to Belitar Seberang Tourism Village is also located.

After the landslide incident, his party together with other related parties immediately made efforts to clean up landslide material using one heavy loader, so that on Sunday afternoon (3/3) the road connecting the two sub-districts could be re-vian by two or four-wheeled vehicles.

"Meanwhile, the road to Belitar Seberang Village until this afternoon is still in the process of clearing avalanche material in the form of soil and stone," he said.

So far, from the monitoring of his party in the field, said Shalahudin, the potential for further landslides can still occur, especially since high-intensity rain continues to occur in Rejang Lebong Regency.
