Bangkal Picu Semburan Lumpur Gas Content In Bojonegoro

JAKARTA - The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources released a hypothesis about mudflows in Bojonegoro, East Java, which is most likely formed due to shallow gas content in rock formations that have not been consolidated.

Head of the Geological Survey Center of the Geological Agency, Edi Slameto, suspects that the rock formation was disrupted due to human or natural activities, such as earthquakes.

"To find out for sure the type of gas, the team is currently conducting a sampling test to the location," said Edi as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 28.

Based on the hypothesis of the Geological Agency, the subsurface conditions of the Bojonegoro-Mojokerto ZonaUpper Pleistocene - Recent (about 180 meters) area are arranged by fine-grained unconsolidated rocks with a seismogram bangrightspot in several places (local).

This condition shows the potential for shallow gas accumulation that allows for the above pressure zone to be normal.

The fine-grained unconsolidated formation tends to thin towards the location of the mudflow in Bojonegoro, but it is still possible to find a right spot that has above normal pressure.

Edi hopes that the surrounding community will remain vigilant and not panic about the mudflow.

He appealed to the public to temporarily stay away from the location and not carry out activities that could trigger a fire triggered by the burst of gas that came out along with the mud.

As previously reported on February 25, 2024, a mudflow as high as 30 to 50 centimeters came out of the concrete sidelines in Sanggar Hamlet, Sidomulyo Village, Kedungadem, Bojonegoro Regency, East Java.

The second burst occurred on December 26, 2023 and lasted for two days. Then, the third burst occurred on February 25, 2024.
