PAM Water In Jakarta Is Claimed To Be The Cheapest In Jabodetabek

JAKARTA - President Director of Perumda PAM Jaya Arief Nasrudin claims that the clean water service rate in Jakarta is pegged to the cheapest customers compared to other areas in Jabodetabek.

Arief revealed that the DKI Provincial Government has not raised the tariff for water services managed by PAM Jaya since 2007.

"The water tariff in Jakarta is too cheap, even cheaper than the water tariff in Jabodetabek," Arief told reporters, Wednesday, February 28.

Until now, PAM Jaya is still setting tariffs according to Governor Regulation Number 11 of 2007 concerning Automatic Tariff Adjustments (PTO) for Drinking Water Semester 1 of 2007.

In the regulation, simple household groups are charged a tariff of IDR 3,550 per three cubic meters or 3,000 liters.

Meanwhile, water service rates for low-income people (MBR) living in flats (rusun) are only charged IDR 1,050 per three cubic meters.

"Water the size of one cubic meter or 1,000 liters costs only Rp. 3,500, meaning only Rp. 35 per liter. If the price is expensive, because people buy from third parties, for example, from the thrust cart," said Arief.

For information, the DKI Provincial Government has assigned PAM Jaya as a BUMD to meet 100 percent of the coverage of water services in all areas of Jakarta by 2030. Meanwhile, currently the achievement is still 65.85 percent.

Therefore, PAM Jaya is carrying out a number of efforts to fulfill service coverage starting from the construction of drinking water supply systems (SPAM), construction of giant water reservoirs or communal reservoirs, changing pipes, installing new pipes, to increasing customers.
