CIANJUR - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cianjur Regency, West Java, noted that two houses were heavily damaged by an earthquake of 5.7 magnitudes with an epicenter in Banten, Sunday (25/2), which was felt quite fast in most Cianjur areas.

Head of BPBD Cianjur Asep Sukma Wijaya, said that after collecting data on damage caused by the Banten earthquake, his party received reports that two houses in Sayang Village, Cianjur District, were heavily damaged.

"One of them is a semi-permanent house, the walls collapsed on the front and side of the house, while another house next to it collapsed on the roof and walls, but there were no casualties because the occupants had already left," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 26.

The owner of the house consisting of two heads of families with eight souls had temporarily fled to his brother's house, because the house could not be occupied.

"We are still collecting data related to the impact of the Banten earthquake," said Asep.

The village head, Wiji Eko Pambudhi, said that two houses that were heavily damaged by the Banten earthquake had now begun to be repaired by the sub-district apparatus assisted by local residents, while the owner and his family had to be temporarily evacuated to his brother's house.

"We just received an official report from the head of the local RT on Monday morning, while the houses that were heavily damaged suddenly collapsed after the Banten earthquake which felt quite strong in most parts of Cianjur," he said.

Luckily at the time of the incident the owner and his family were already outside the house, so there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the incident. His party tried to provide quick assistance by rebuilding a semi-permanent house that collapsed and was moderately damaged.

"We are targeting that today it can be occupied again, after officers and builders confirmed that the house is still livable even though it collapsed on the walls," he said.

Until now, his party is still collecting data to other areas related to the impact of the Banten earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7, which is felt by residents quite fast throughout the Cianjur area.

"We are still collecting data in all areas. Unfortunately, the impact of the damage to the Banten earthquake was quite strong," he said.
