JAKARTA - Vice Presidential Candidate number three, Mahfud MD said the right of inquiry proposed in the DPR to resolve the chaos of the 2024 General Election could indeed lead to the impeachment of the president. However, the process was made long so that it could not be done carelessly.

This was conveyed by Mahfud in an online discussion with netizens on his official X or Twitter account, @mohmahfudmd. Initially, Mahfud mentioned that there were two ways to overcome the chaos of the election due to allegations of fraud.

"At least there are two official channels to resolve the chaos of the 2024 General Election. One, the legal route through the Constitutional Court can cancel the election results as long as there is evidence and the Constitutional Court judges dare," Mahfud wrote on his social media account, Monday, February 26.

"Second, the political path through angket in the DPR cannot cancel the election results but can impose political sanctions on the president, including the impact, depending on the political configuration," he continued.

A netizen then talked about the presidential impeachment. He said this process would certainly take a long time.

"It feels like the impeachment will take a long time, prof. The current president will immediately step down. The stage is long and complicated," tweeted @IrdhiansyahSS.

Mahfud responded to this tweet by saying that this process was deliberately made for a long time. The goal is not to do it carelessly.

"Impeachment does take a long time and be careful. It is arranged that it does not arbitrarily impeach the president. You can't rush it to be careless," said the former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam).

However, if from the right of inquiry there can be fraud, then follow-up can be carried out. Moreover, a criminal act occurred.

"But if there are criminal law consequences from the findings and political decisions of angket, no matter how slow, they can still be followed up without being bound for a period," said Mahfud.

Previously reported, Ganjar Pranowo, who is the presidential candidate number three, proposed two supporting parties in parliament, namely the PDI-P (PDIP) and the United Development Party (PPP) to roll out the right of inquiry related to alleged fraud in the 2024 General Election.

"The DPR can ask the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) to investigate allegations of fraud in the holding of this year's elections," said Ganjar. Later, the presidential and vice-presidential camps number one, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar or AMIN will also follow the same steps.
