Heavy Rain, Motorcyclist Killed By Falling Tree In Trenggalek

TRENGGALEK - A motorcyclist who was passing on the Trenggalek-Ponorogo national road, was reportedly killed by a fallen tree when it rained with high intensity in the Trenggalek Regency, East Java, early Sunday at around 02.00 WIB.

The fallen tree caused traffic jams, either from Ponorogo to Trenggalek or vice versa from the direction of Trenggalek City to Ponorogo.

"In addition to causing traffic jams, the fallen tree also hit a motorcyclist with police number AG 6047 YG. The victim was then evacuated to Dr. Soedomo Trenggalek Hospital," said Head of BPBD Trenggalek,villai Atmono, quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, February 25.

He explained that the transversely fallen perdu tree in Etankali Hamlet, Nglongsor Village, Tugu District, Trenggalek also caused two terraces of residents' houses to be badly damaged and the damage to PLN's telephone and electricity network. The joint officers who received the report immediately rushed to the location. From the identification results, it is known that the motorcyclist who was hit by the tree was Ronal Danar Prasetya (20), a resident of RT 02 / RW 01, Pilak Village, Tugu District. "The victim died at the location," he said. The road section, which is the location of the fallen tree, is a vital access connecting Trenggalek to Ponorogo, as well as a southern route connecting East Java's province with Central Java. It took up to about an hour to evacuate the tree which has a diameter of about one meter and a height of 12 meters. He appealed to the public to be aware of fallen trees when heavy rains occur.

Previously, a fallen tree also occurred on Jalan Raya Gemaharjo Durenan on Saturday at 20.00 WIB which also cut off traffic completely.

Traffic flow, during the tree evacuation process, was diverted to the police post via Njuk and directed to Sebo Market.
