Involved In Human Smuggling, Three Foreigners From Yemen Were Arrested At The Kalibata City Apartment

JAKARTA Three foreign nationals (WNA) from Yemen were secured by South Jakarta Immigration (Jaksel), on suspicion of a criminal act of human smuggling (TPPM). The three foreigners were arrested while in the Kalibata City Apartment, Thursday night, February 22.

"The three of them were arrested at the Kalibata Apartment. We will continue to develop this case, because the crime was committed by foreigners," said Head of the Immigration Division of the DKI Jakarta Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Sandi Andaryadi, quoted from Antara, Friday, February 23.

He said that the three foreigners from Yemen were certainly not working alone, but there were also Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were involved in the human smuggling case.

According to him, the three foreigners who were arrested sent Indonesian citizens, especially women, to the Middle East, without going through legal procedures.

"Sent to the Middle East, such as Bahrain, Jordan and others to be used as household workers," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the South Jakarta Immigration Office Felicia Sengky Ratna said the three Yemeni foreigners who were arrested had the initials MAAB, OA and FH.

He added that the disclosure of the case began with the MAAB perpetrator who applied for a residence extension permit as an investor after his validity period expired.

"However, after we checked the PT MAB office located around Senayan, information was obtained that the guarantor's office had a 'virtual office' status and had not been operating since 2021 because it had not extended the lease period," he said.

He said, after the irregularities were found, the officers immediately went to MAAB's residence and two people were found there as well as several evidences in the form of cell phones, videos of human smuggling, and others.

"For their actions, the three of them are threatened with violating Article 120 paragraph (1) of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration with the threat of 15 years imprisonment," he said.
