Rice Cooker Share Sticker, Candidates In Bireuen Aceh Sued 6 Months In Prison

BANDA ACEH - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Bireuen District Attorney, Aceh, charged three defendants with election crimes each with a sentence of six months in prison.

The prosecution read out the demands, Deddy Maryadi and his friends, at the trial at the Bireuen District Court. The trial with separate cases and different panel of judges.

Reported by ANTARA, Friday, February 23, the three defendants were Choirul Amri, Muswandi, and Fajri. The defendants Choirul Amri and Muswandi are candidates for legislative members for the selection of the Bireuen DPRK in the 2024 election. Meanwhile, the defendant Fajri is the village head in Bireuen Regency.

The prosecutor in his charge stated that the defendants were guilty of campaigning in the 2024 General Election by distributing electric rice feeders accompanied by legislative stickers and bulyasin with a photo cover of legislative candidates.

"The defendants also directed the public to vote for the legislative candidate in the 2024 General Election. The actions were legally and convincingly proven to have violated the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning elections," said the public prosecutor.

The prosecutor said the defendants Choirul Amri and the defendant Muswandi were guilty of violating Article 523 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 7 of 2017. In addition to imprisonment for six months, the two defendants were also charged with paying a fine of Rp. 20 million, subsidiary to one month in prison.

As for the defendant Fajri, the Public Prosecutor stated that he was guilty of violating Article 490 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 7 of 2017. In addition to six months in prison, the defendant Fajri was also required to pay a fine of Rp. 10 million with a subsidiary or a substitute sentence of one month in prison.

Based on the prosecutor's demands, the defendants stated that they would file a memorandum of defense or plea. The panel of judges continued the trial on February 26, 2024, with the agenda of hearing the memorandum of defense of the defendants.
