Mount Ile Lewotolok In Lembata Back Eruption

The Volcano Observation Post in Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), reported that Mount Ile Lewotolok in the district had erupted again.

"There has just been an eruption with a height of ash columns being observed reaching approximately 500 meters above the top of the mountain," said Volcano Monitoring Post Observation Officer Stanis Ara Kian in Lembata, reported by ANTARA, Friday, February 23.

Visually, said Stanis, the ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate to thick intensity leaning towards the east and southeast. This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 8.6 mm and a duration of about 2 minutes 54 seconds.

Currently, the status of Mount Ile Lewotolok is at Level II (Alert).

"People around the mountain and visitors, climbers, tourists are asked not to carry out activities within a two-kilometer radius of the center of mountain activity," he said.

People in three villages who are right at the foot of the mountain, namely Lamawolo, Lamatokan, and Jontona villages, should always be aware of the potential threat of danger from lava avalanches and hot clouds.

In addition, people living around the valleys/rivers that originate at the top of Mount Ile Lewotolok are also advised to always be aware of the potential for lava threats that can occur, especially during the rainy season like today.
