MAJALENGKA - The West Java Provincial Government has prepared emergency tents and public kitchens to help victims affected by the tornado in Bandung and Sumedang Regencies.
"“Yesterday, we coordinated with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the TNI-Polri to prepare tents and public kitchens," said Acting Governor of West Java Bey Tahri Machmudin in Majalengka, Antara, Friday, February 23.
Bey explained that the emergency tent was being built by joint officers, so that residents who were victims could temporarily evacuate in that place.
Then, he said, for the public kitchen later to meet logistics needs such as food and drinks needed by the victims in the two areas. “ For safe logistics needs, because there is a public kitchen. It's being prepared,” said Bey.
According to him, the post-disaster management has been going well because the local government is moving quickly to tackle and minimize the impact caused by the incident.
Bey said that one of the responsive policies had been carried out by the Sumedang Regency Government by setting an emergency response status for tornadoes until February 29, 2024.
In addition, the Sumedang Regency Government also guarantees the repair of houses affected by the tornado by preparing an unexpected budget (BTT).
"For Sumedang Regency, the emergency response has been determined and the damage has been overcome by the BTT," he said.
Bey added that the West Java Provincial Government is committed to providing further handling, both for victims and buildings damaged by the tornado.
"I convey to the regent/mayor that this post-disaster handling has been very good. So it's been very fast," he said.
Previously, a tornado hit the Bandung Regency (Rancaekek) and Sumedang Regency (Jatinangor) on Wednesday (21/2).
As a result of this incident, a number of buildings such as shops, factories and residents' houses in the two areas were damaged from light to heavy.
West Java BPBD reported that around 12 residents were injured and 413 families were affected by the disaster. Meanwhile, in Bandung Regency, 21 people were injured and 422 families were affected.
