CILACAP - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to the public, especially in the southern part of Central Java, to be aware of the increase in air temperature that has occurred in the last few days due to the apparent movement of the sun.

"The apparent movement of the sun from the southern hemisphere approaching the equator or equator is one of the causes of the increase in air temperature," said Head of the BMKG Technician Group of Meteorological Station (Stamet) Tunggul Wulung Cilacap, Teguh Wardoyo, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, February 22.

He said based on the results of weather observations conducted at Stamet Tunggul Wulung Cilacap that the maximum air temperature in February had increased compared to January 2024 which was in the range of 32 degrees Celsius.

Teguh gave an example of the maximum air temperature in Cilacap and its surroundings in the period 8-20 February 2024 which was recorded at 33 degrees Celsius.

"In fact, the maximum air temperature observed at Stamet Tunggul Wulung today is 33.8 degrees Celsius. On February 16, 33.6 degrees Celsius was also recorded, so the air around Cilacap felt very hot and pungent," he said.

He said the maximum air temperature was still normal because based on climatological data over the past 30 years, the maximum air temperature in Cilacap in February 2013 had reached 34.5 degrees Celsius.

Climatologically, said Teguh, in February it had the highest average daily absolute maximum temperature compared to other months, reaching 33.7 degrees Celsius.

"The maximum temperature that is hot is predicted to last until March, but certainly not every day," he said.

Climatologically, the highest maximum air temperature in March occurred on March 15, 2012 because it reached 35.3 degrees Celsius, setting a record for the hottest temperature in Cilacap.

Even though it is still normal, he appealed to the public to remain vigilant about the increase in the maximum air temperature which has an impact on the hot and pungent weather.

According to Teguh, this anticipation can be done using an umbrella or clothes that can cover the body in order to avoid direct sun shocks.

"Also drink lots of water and if possible reduce outdoor activities," said Teguh.
