There Are Still 245 Flood Prone Points In Surabaya, This Is The City Government's Promise

Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi seems unable to solve the flood problem in his area. The Surabaya City Water Resources and Highways Service (DSDABM) noted that there were 245 flood-prone points during the rainy season throughout 2024.

"There are 245 flood points that we are trying to complete this year. The most concentration is West Surabaya, and the one that is a bit in the middle is Kupang Hamlet," said Head of DSDABM Surabaya City, Syamsul Hariadi, Thursday, February 22.

Hundreds of these points are located in the western and southern areas of Surabaya, such as in the Pondok Benowo Indah (PBI), Jalan Tengger, and Pakal Madya. Currently, his party is focusing on dealing with flooding in the Dukuh Kupang area.

"In that area, floods often occur when it rains, which is caused by soil contours lower than roads. So it can be seen that the virus can be flooded," he said.

In the near future, he said, his party will also soon build embankments in the Dukuh Kupang area. The flow of water, will be directed to the canal around the Distance grave.

"Yesterday during the survey there was a tomb below. So I will tell my friends later to build the embankment for a while. If it rains, let the water run to the tomb first," he said.

In addition, Syamsul said it also increases the capacity of the channel. Then monitor the drains and pump houses if something is clogged. "So, every time it rains, friends (tasks) go around, if there is a blockage I tell them to push (clean) so that the water enters the channel. The garbage is also a problem for the pump house, actually, because if it has been hit by wes garbage, it doesn't work (when it can't move). Moreover, if the garbage is in the form of rope slapped, it can get stuck in the propeller of the pump house engine, dead wes (can die)," he said.

Then the Surabaya DSDABM also moved the Surabaya Moving program with residents. According to him, public interest in doing community service together through the Surabaya Mobile program is still in demand.

According to him, joint community service through this has a big effect. Because with community service, residents help dredging the sediments that are on the channel.

"If there is sediment, it reduces the capacity of the channel. For example, the capacity of the channel is one cubic, so if the sediment cover can lose half by itself. The food is (sedient) that is lifted, so that the channel can be filled with water when it rains, so 50 percent is more effective," he concluded.
