Judge Rejects MAKI Pretrial Against KPK Regarding Harun Masiku

JAKARTA - South Jakarta District Court Sole Judge Abu Hanifah rejected all pretrial lawsuits filed by the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) against the KPK regarding the handling of the Harun Masiku case.

"It is completely rejected and all costs are charged to the applicants," said South Jakarta District Court (PN) Sole Judge Abu Hanifah reading out the pretrial application decision reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 21.

MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman admitted that he was disappointed with the judge's decision to reject the pretrial application related to the Harun Masiku case.

According to him, the reason why the South Jakarta District Court (Jaksel) Single Judge refused was because there was no evidence of a warrant to terminate the investigation against Harun Masiku by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) so that what was requested by MAKI did not have a basis.

"It is true that no evidence has been found to stop the investigation, meaning formally. I regret that the judge only talked about black and white, aka paper," he said.

MAKI stated that the pretrial application against the KPK with the demand that the suspect in the alleged corruption case Harun Masiku be tried "in absentia" is an effort to eradicate corruption.

The "in absence" trial was the process of a trial that was not attended by the defendant in a criminal event case.

"So my lawsuit is an effort, if later the 'in absence' trial can be carried out if it cannot be arrested," said Boyamin.

Harun Masiku was named by the KPK as a suspect in the case of alleged gift giving or promises to state officials regarding the appointment of candidates for members of the DPR RI elected for the 2019-2024 period at the KPU RI.

However, Harun Masiku has always been absent from the summons of KPK investigators to be included in the wanted list (DPO) since January 17, 2020.
