Sahoni Calls Jokowi Right To Appoint Hadi Tjahjanto As Coordinating Minister For Political, Legal And Security Affairs

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives Ahmad Sahroni heard the issue of Hadi Tjahjanto being immediately appointed as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. He also said that Hadi's figure was suitable and appropriate to carry out politics, law and security.

"The issue is like that," said Sahroni in a short message received by ANTARA in Jakarta, Tuesday, February 20.

Sahroni heard the issue that the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo would inaugurate Hadi Tjahjanto as the definitive Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs on Wednesday, February 21.

If the news is true, said the NasDem Party politician, the President is right to choose Hadi Tjahjanto as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, the position previously held by Mahfud Md.

"If it is true, the President is very appropriate to choose him to become the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs," said Sahroni.

Hadi Tjahjanto currently serves as Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN).

Previously, President Joko Widodo said that his party would immediately appoint a definitive Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs as soon as possible, which came from non-political parties.

"As soon as possible, the minister will appoint a definitive minister. The figure is from a political party," Jokowi said in his statement to reporters in Bale Rame, Bandung, West Java, Saturday (3/2).

Hadi Tjahjanto is a former TNI Commander who was inaugurated in 2017 to replace Gatot Nurmantyo. Before being appointed as TNI Commander, Hadi was also the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force for the 2017-2018 period.

The President previously appointed the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian as Acting (Plt.) Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) replacing Mahfud Md. who had resigned.

The appointment was conveyed by the President in Presidential Decree Number 20/P of 2024 which was signed in Jakarta, Friday. The Presidential Decree also contains the honorable dismissal of Mahfud Md.

As the contents of the presidential decree, Tito Karnavian will become Plt. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs for the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet for the 2019-2024 period until the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs is definitive.
