Busy Guarding Elections, 16 Tanah Abang Police Detainees Escape

JAKARTA - A total of 16 prisoners from the Tanah Abang Metro Police escaped from the cell on Monday morning, February 19. Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Susatyo Purnomo Condro said two prisoners from 16 people who escaped from prison cells were arrested.

"Currently, there are still 14 other detainees who escaped from the Tanah Abang Metro Police detention cell room," said Kombes Susatyo when confirmed, Monday, February 19.

In order to handle the case of escaped prisoners, the Central Jakarta Metro Police formed a special team to hunt down the perpetrators. The special team is a combination of the Criminal Investigation Unit, the Narcotics Unit and the Tanah Abang Metro Police.

"This incident began to be discovered on Monday, February 19, 2024, at around 02.40 WIB. The Tanah Abang Metro Police received a report from the residents behind that there was a group of unknown people running," he said.

After receiving the report, the Tanah Abang Metro Police immediately checked the detention room and found an open ventilation cell.

"Then take care of the detainees checking to the back of the cell, found the bonding of the prayer mat to the bottom of the iron tellis that were cut," he said.

Currently, the police are still pursuing 14 prisoners who are still at large.
