Propam Polri Withdraws Handling Of Cases Of 18 Malaysian Citizen Police During DWP

JAKARTA - The National Police Propam withdrew the handling of the alleged extortion case committed by dozens of police against 45 foreign nationals (WNA) from Malaysia during the 2024 Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP).

The decision to withdraw the handling of the case was based on the decision of the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

"As a result of our discussion with the leadership of the National Police, we agree that all handling of this case was taken over by the Div Propam Police Headquarters," said the Head of the Propam Police Division, Inspector General Abdul Karim, quoted on Thursday, December 26.

Originally, the alleged extortion case experienced by dozens of Malaysian citizens was handled by Propam at the Polsek, Polres, and Polda levels.

However, to accelerate the handling of cases and so on, Karim continued, it was decided to withdraw the handling.

"Why do we take over this, in the context of accelerating and objectiveity in the context of examination," he said.

For the follow-up to the handling of the case, 18 police officers suspected of being involved in extortion will be tried on ethics or the Police Code of Ethics Commission (KKEP). The plan is that the trial will be held next week.

However, it is not certain about the time of implementation. The reason is that the National Police are still focused on securing Christmas 2024 and New Year's 2025.

"We agreed that at the DivPropam we will try this case, which we plan to hold next week, a code of ethics trial will be held which we will hold next week," said Karim.

While waiting for the KKEP trial, the dozens of police were said to have been placed in a special place or Patsus. This step is also a form of giving witnesses.

"So 18 people and now we have also placed them in a special placement placed in the Propam Headquarters Div," said Karim.

Dozens of police extorted 45 foreigners from Malaysia. In addition, the National Police Propam found evidence of extortion by dozens of police officers reaching Rp2.5 billion.

"I need to clarify this as well. That the amount of evidence that we have secured is 2.5 billion rupiah. So don't let it be like the previous news, which is quite large," said Karim.
