Badanas: West Java Is Included In The Food Safe Region Category

BANDUNG - The National Food Agency (Bapanas) stated that West Java Province is categorized as a food safe area, where there are 11 food commodities that are maintained availability.

"There are 11 commodities that are maintained in availability, ranging from rice, corn, soybeans, chicken meat, beef and buffalo, shallots, garlic, various chilies, consumption sugar, cooking oil, fish and consumption salt," said Bakanas Main Secretary Sarwo Edhy in a statement in Bandung, Sunday.

However, Sarwo acknowledged that rice commodities in this area also experienced scarcity and the price had increased.

"We are trying to stabilize, and thank God the availability of this rice is sufficient (including in West Java) and we are still providing assistance in the last six months to beneficiary families, totaling 22 million KPM (indonesia)," he said.

Meanwhile, regarding food insecurity in cities and districts, Badanas claims that in 2023 there will be a decline from 2022 and there will be 68 areas that are still prone to food.

"From 74, it fell to 68 based on data from the Central Statistics Agency. So there was a decline," he said.

He stated that the decline in food-prone areas is a positive indication of food security amid the threat of a food crisis.

Therefore, he said, Bapanas continues to encourage food-prone areas to experience improvement by making several efforts to make it happen, such as ensuring that food supply and prices are maintained with the low-cost market movement.

"Then the food rice stock, and other activities related to food, lead to food security through sovereignty and food independence," said Sarwo.

Sarwo explained that there are nine indicators of food-prone areas, namely in terms of availability related to consumption and production ratios.

Then, in terms of affordability related to access to electricity, clean water, and household income.

"Meanwhile, in terms of affordability, there is a ratio of health workers, stunting rates, to life expectancy," he said.
