Ministry Of Health Records 27 Cases Of Death Of KPPS Officers In The 2024 Election, Majority Due To Heart Disease

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) recorded 27 deaths from officials from the Voting Organizing Group (KPPS) in the 2024 General Election. "So far, 27 deaths have been reported," said Head of the Communication and Public Service Bureau of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, confirmed in Jakarta, Antara, Friday, February 16. Various cases were found in a number of areas, including Central Java, West Java, East Java, Banten, and DKI Jakarta. Based on data compiled until Friday, at 14.00 WIB, nine of them died related to heart disease. In addition, four illnesses were caused by accidents, two septic shock infections, two comorbid deaths, one acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), one hypertension, and eight others died on the way to the hospital (death on arrival) and are being confirmed. On a separate occasion, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the death rate of KPPS officers in this year's election decreased compared to the previous election which recorded 884 officers who died. "Indeed, compared to last year (the election) which (the death rate) was above 100, this (year) decreased considerably," he said when met at the Dharmais Cancer Hospital (RSK) Jakarta. He said the decline in the death rate was influenced by increased health awareness from people who volunteered to become KPPS officers.

"We feel that the public understands that working should not be too forced," he said.
