Mexican Navy Raids Largest Shabu-Shabu Factory In Sonora

JAKARTA - Mexico's armed forces said on Monday they managed to dismantle a "big factory" of classified methamphetamine in northern Sonora State, marking the largest drug laboratory dismantled under the current government.

"This is the largest factory we have secured during the current administration and represents more than 50 percent of the drugs and precursors seized this year," the Mexican navy said in a statement on X, alongside photos showing large containers and white sacks in rural camps near Rancho Viejo.

The Mexican Navy said it had confiscated 4.13 metric tons (91.073 lb) of crystal methamphetamine and 1.27 tons of precursor chemicals used to make synthetic drugs.

In addition, there are 72 laboratory reactors at the site, he added, five times more than the 13 reactors found at the country's previous largest secret plant, which was also found in Sonora.

The United States has pushed Mexico to take firm action against drug trafficking, especially fentanyls, even as leaked documents reveal that Mexican soldiers revised the number of drug laboratory raids they said had been carried out under the administration of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who was in the last year of his term.

Meanwhile, Mexico has pushed the United States to take a firmer stance on the illicit arms trade from the United States to drug cartels across the border.
