JAKARTA - More than 27,500 Palestinians have died as a result of the conflict in Gaza, with at least 107 people killed in the past 24 hours, the regional Ministry of Health confirmed on Tuesday, when the Hamas-Israeli war entered its 124th day.

More than 140 others were injured during this period, authorities added, bringing the total death toll since October 7 to at least 27,585 people dead and 66,978 injured.

The ministry's statement noted that in the last 24 hours the Israeli army carried out 12 massacres in the Gaza Strip that killed 107 people and injured 143 others.

"Many people are still trapped under the rubble and on the road and rescue teams cannot reach them," the ministry said, quoted by the Daily Sabah on February 7.

Israel's attacks over the past few weeks focused on the Khan Younis region, a city located south of the Gaza Strip.

Israel has accused the leader of the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement of taking refuge in the underground tunnel network there, carrying the hostages arrested during the October 7 raid.

Earlier on Monday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced his troops would advance further to Rafah City, which is located on the border with Egypt.

Rafah, home to about 200,000 people before the war, is currently filled with more than 1 million Palestinians, who have fled fighting from other regions of the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, Egypt, which has signed a peace agreement with Israel, firmly opposes Israeli attacks on border areas.

Cairo fears Israeli military operations in Rafah could lead to an invasion of Palestinians desperate to flee to Egypt's Sinai peninsula, a completely unacceptable condition by Egypt.
