JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian emphasized the importance of anti-corruption education from an early age. According to him, this is one of the main keys to achieving the success of eradicating corruption.
"We hope that this anti-corruption movement will really take place from an early age and we are sure that this will be very influential, will keep up with the efforts to take action, maybe even prosecution does not need to happen," Tito said in his statement, Tuesday, February 6, quoted by Antara.
Tito conveyed this in the "National Coordination Meeting for the Implementation of Anti-Corruption Education within the Regional Government" which was held by the Ministry of Home Affairs together with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at the Sasana Bhakti Praja Building, Ministry of Home Affairs, Jakarta, Tuesday 6 February
Tito also emphasized that educational institutions have an important role in shaping anti-corruption characters in children. Therefore, he said, students must be instilled in an understanding of the negative impact of corruption.
"Our advice to our friends at school, if we want to educate our children to understand the anti-corruption movement, that corruption is something taboo, something bad and negative; then it must be instilled in them, violating it is negative," said Tito.
He added that his party would support the KPK's activity program, especially regarding anti-corruption education for early childhood and adolescents. Tito also said that the support was carried out because his party was the general coach of the local government (Pemda).
