ACEH - Langsa Police Chief AKBP Andy Rahmansyah said East Aceh residents refused to accommodate 137 Rohingya immigrants who had previously landed at Kuala Parek Beach, Sungai Raya District, East Aceh Regency.
"There was a rejection from the residents. The residents wanted the Rohingya immigrants to return to sailing to the place they were going and not to be accommodated in Aceh," said Andy Rahmansyah in East Aceh, quoted from Antara, Thursday, February 1.
Kuala Parek Beach, Sungai Raya District, administratively entered the East Aceh Regency area. Meanwhile, legally, it entered the Langsa Police, Aceh Police.
Previously, as many as 137 Rohingya immigrants landed at Kuala Parek Beach, Thursday (1/2) at around 04.00 WIB. The hundreds of Rohingya immigrants consisted of 40 adult men, 47 adult women, 23 girls, and 27 boys.
The immigrants landed after the motorboat they were traveling on was suspected of having engine failure. Previously, their motorboat was adrift in the waters of the Malacca Strait and carried by the current to land on the coast in East Aceh Regency.
The police chief said the rejection was based on various public concerns about Rohingya immigrants who continued to come to Aceh Province. Moreover, the location of the Rohingya immigrants landed is far from the center of the crowd.
"The public is also worried because the arrival of the immigrants is suspected to be interference from human smuggling syndicates. Like a few months ago, the arrival of Rohingya immigrants at Seuneubok Baroh Village Beach, Darul Aman District, East Aceh Regency, is suspected of being a criminal act of smuggling people," said Andy Rahmansyah.
Sungai Raya sub-district head Muhammad Ridha said that he and the community had helped 137 Rohingya immigrants who landed in Kuala Parek by providing food.
"It is accommodated or does not depend on the community. If people ask Rohingya immigrants to return to their ships, then we will help get them on the ship so that they can continue their journey to their destination," said Muhammad Ridha.
