Immigration Bali Deportation Of American Caucasians Who Became Beggars In Ubud

DENPASAR - The Immigration Office in Bali expelled a foreign citizen (WNA) from the United States who was caught begging in the Ubud tourist area, Gianyar Regency.

"The principle of selective policy is our guide. Only foreigners can provide positive benefits and do not endanger the security of the state that can be accommodated," said Denpasar Immigration Detention Center Head Gede Dudy Duwita, quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, January 28.

The foreigner from America with the initials MAM was judged by Immigration to have violated Article 75 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 6 Year 2011 concerning Immigration.

In the provisions of Article 75 Paragraph (1) of the law, it states that Immigration officials have the authority to deport foreigners in Indonesia who carry out dangerous activities and should be suspected of endangering security and public order or not respecting or disobeying statutory regulations.

The reason is that the 69-year-old man was reported by the local community to officers of the Bali Province Civil Service Police Unit on November 16, 2023 in the Dewatan, Ubud for often begging and disturbing residents in front of one of the local supermarkets.

Satpol PP officers then arrested MAM and examined further.

However, when asked for information, MAM was not willing to provide information and did not cooperate with the officers.

According to Dedy, from the results of the examination, it was stated that MAM had disrupted public order and disturbed the public, in accordance with Article 24 paragraph (3) of the Bali Provincial Regulation Number 5 of 2023 concerning the Implementation of Public Order, Public Peace and Community Protection.

"So in this case immigration carries out immigration administrative measures in the form of deportation to foreigners," he said.

After leaving Satpol PP, MAM was then transferred to Denpasar Immigration for follow-up.

Considering that the elderly man could not be deported at that time due to a number of problems including finance, MAM was then temporarily placed at the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) for almost 70 days.

After coordinating with representatives of the US government, MAM then left Bali via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to Seattle, the state of Washington, USA, after being financed by the United States Consulate on a loan scheme.
