JAKARTA - The Palestinian Authority welcomes the decision of the International Court (ICJ) ordering Israel to stop genocide in Gaza, in a case brought by South Africa to a court based in The Hague, the Netherlands, Friday.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al Maliki said the Palestinian Authority (PA) welcomed the interim steps ordered by the International Court.

"The ICJ judges have assessed the facts and the law. They have decided to support humanity and international law," he said, as reported by The National News on January 26.

"We call on all countries to ensure that all temporary action ordered by the courts is carried out, including by Israel, the colonial state," he continued.

"This is a binding legal obligation. The countries now have a clear legal obligation to stop the Israeli genocide war against the Palestinian people in Gaza and ensure that they are not involved," he explained.

As previously reported, the panel of judges of the International Court led by Joan E. Donoghue ordered Israel to stop genocide in Gaza.

"Israel must take action to prevent and punish any public incitement to commit genocide," Donoghue said in his ruling.

He added that Israel must ensure its troops do not commit genocide and must also ensure evidence of alleged genocide remains.

The court ruled that Israel must take all measures to prevent all acts of killing or injuring Gazans.

"Israel must ensure the military does not commit acts of genocide." said the judge.

"The ICJ order is an important reminder that no country is above the law," said Al Maliki.
