Rob Hits The Coastal Area Of Tanjungpinang City

TANJUNGPINANG - Rob hit a number of coastal areas of Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands Province (Kepri) to inundate a number of local residents' settlements.

One of them is in the Pelatar II Tanjungpinang area.

"The tidal flood has occurred since Thursday and continues to this day," said Joko, one of the shopkeepers at Pelatar II Tanjungpinang in Tanjungpinang City, Antara, Friday, January 3.

In Pelatar II Tanjungpinang, the tidal wave submerged the road with adult calf heights, while several two-wheeled motorized vehicles were forced to turn around, for fear their vehicles were damaged when passing through the salt water.

"The tidal flood had seeped into the store. Conditions seemed to occur every year," he said.

Rrob also occurred on Jalan Lembah Purnama Tanjungpinang to submerge residential areas and posyandu. A number of local residents anticipate by moving valuables, especially electronic devices, to higher locations, for fear that their houses will be submerged in sea water and household furniture will be damaged.

"The tidal flood also triggers garbage from the sea by land so that it pollutes the residents' environment," said another local resident, Ali.

Head of BPBD Tanjungpinang Muhammad Yamin appealed to coastal communities to be more aware of tidal waves to prevent unwanted things.

Residents are advised to save valuables and turn off electricity networks on the floor or easily accessible to sea water.

"BPBD is ready to receive reports if residents need help due to tidal flooding," he said.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that tidal waves will hit a number of coastal areas in Riau Islands from December 29, 2024 to January 4, 2025.

The increase in sea tides has an impact on transportation disruptions around ports and coasts, community activities, and loading and unloading activities at ports.
