Prabowo Opens His Voice About The President Can Take The Presidential Candidate, Affirms He Will Hold The Rules

Presidential candidate (candidate) number 2, Prabowo Subianto opened his voice about President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) statement which said the president could take sides and campaign for one of the presidential and vice-presidential pairs for the 2024 presidential election.

Prabowo emphasized that his party would stick to the rules governing the matter of the president's alignment.

"I think there is already a discourse and everything has been regulated (about the president being able to side and campaign, ed). I think we just stick to that," Prabowo told reporters after visiting the KWI office, Jakarta, Friday, January 26.

When asked whether the president could take sides and a campaign as long as he did not use state facilities, Prabowo was reluctant to answer.

"You don't fight your words in my mouth, please," said the Minister of Defense in response.

Jokowi previously emphasized that everyone has political and democratic rights, including ministers. In fact, Jokowi said that a president may take sides and campaign.

"The right of democracy, the political rights of every minister are the same. The important thing is that the president may campaign. The president may take sides. Yes," said Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, East Jakarta.

Jokowi said that as a public official, he and the ministers could do politics. But, what must be remembered, state facilities should not be used other than for their work.

"But the most important thing is that during campaign time you can't use state facilities," he said.

The KPU confirmed that the president may participate in the campaign, as long as he is on leave and does not use state facilities. The only state facility that can be used is attached security. This is regulated in Article 281 paragraph 1 of the Election Law.
