BOGOR - The Government of Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste discussed five agreements in the official visit of the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste Xanana Gusmao, including the completion of the land boundary negotiations of the two countries "In the meeting, we discussed several things, Firstly, we agreed to encourage the completion of the negotiations on the border of the two countries," said President Joko Widodo in a press statement with the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste Xanana Gusmao quoted by ANTARA, Friday 26 January. After holding a bilateral meeting with PM Xana, President Jokowi welcomed the reactivation of the Joint Border Committee for the management of the RI and Timor Leste land borders, including cross-border posts. Second, President Jokowi appreciated Timor Leste's confidence in Indonesian SOE companies that handled a number of projects, such as road construction in Oecusse, as well as the expansion of Presidentate Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Dili. On the same occasion, President Jokowi also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding of cooperation with information technology. "We also encourage telecommunication infrastructure cooperation including optical fiber investment plans," said the President. In the fourth point, Indonesia is committed to supporting the full membership of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste in ASEAN. As stated by President Jokowi, the interests of resolving the political issues in Myanmar so that Indonesia and Timor Leste agreed to support Lao Chairmanship at the ASEAN Summit this year to encourage the implementation of Five Point Agreements or Five Point Consensus. On the same occasion, PM Xana welcomed the performance of the negotiating team to complete the negotiations on the land limits of the two countries. "We at this time have a clearer understanding of the issues and we believe that in the future we will get a solution to this problem. As stated by President Jokowi, the interest of resolving the boundaries with Indonesia will strengthen the sovereignty of our two countries," said PM Xana.

He also expressed his appreciation to Indonesia, which in the Chairship of ASEAN in 2023 supports Timor Leste's full membership in the organization of Southeast Asian countries. PM Xanana Gusmao's official visit at the Bogor Palace was the first time since he was inaugurated as Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste in July 2023.
