KPU Evaluation Of The Rules For The Main Debate Of The Presidential Election Because Gibran Is Out Of The Podium Again

The KPU will evaluate the pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates who left the podium during the fourth debate of the 2024 presidential election at the Senayan Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Hall, Jakarta, Sunday (21/1).

KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari said an evaluation meeting with the candidate pair team would be held between January 23-24, 2024.

"(Candidates coming out of the podium) are part of the evaluation," said Hasyim as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, January 22.

He mentioned that all inputs, criticisms and suggestions from each candidate would be formulated as an important note for the last or fifth debate. After that, the KPU will hold a meeting with the television organizers who will hold the fifth debate.

Previously, Gibran Rakabuming Raka left the podium when describing his vision and mission in the fourth debate of the 2024 presidential election at the Senayan Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Hall, Jakarta, Sunday, January 21.

The theme of the fourth debate includes energy, natural resources, food, carbon taxes, the environment, agrarians, and indigenous peoples.

This alleged violation is not the first time Gibran has committed this violation. He did this during the first debate of the vice president on December 22, 2023.

Previously, KPU member August Mellaz said his party and the team of presidential/vice-presidential candidates agreed to use the microphone installed on the podium so that candidates would not leave the podium.

"At the time of the meeting, it was agreed that the use of the podium would still be carried out. The position of the sodium is like an anchor. If the first debate is without a podium, the assumption is that people have room for movement, more freely. For the podium, it is limited to the podium," said Mellaz in Jakarta, Wednesday (27/12).

This provision came into effect in the third debate, Sunday (7/1). In addition, the KPU emphasized that technically, nothing was changed from the third debate.

To note, in the first debate, Gibran took an overreaction by provoking supporters when the debate alluded to ethical violations in the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which benefited him from running as a vice presidential candidate accompanying Prabowo.

The series of debates for the last 2024 presidential election will take place on February 4 for presidential candidates and carry the theme of social welfare, culture, education, information technology, health, employment, human resources, and inclusion.
