JAKARTA - Arsul Sani admitted to re-entering a strict world after the inauguration as a constitutional judge by President Joko Widodo because the Honorary Council of the Constitutional Court (MKMK) would supervise him.

"Today I am back, I am sure, entering a strict world, especially since the MKMK has been formed," said Arsul Sani in his remarks at the Wisuda Purnabakti and Separately Sambut Constitutional Justices event reported by ANTARA, Thursday, January 18.

Apart from being supervised by the MKMK, Arsul joked that he was also being monitored by members of the Judicial Commission (KY), even though KY was not authorized to supervise constitutional judges. This is because his wife, Sukma Violetta, is a member of KY.

"God willing, not only being escorted by the MKMK, but also being escorted by KY members in my house. My wife happens to still be a member of the Indonesian KY," said Arsul jokingly.

He continued, "Currently, yesterday happened to have been the Head of the Judge's Supervision Division for years. So, even though according to the Constitutional Court's decision, KY did not supervise the constitutional judge, it didn't apply to me."

In his remarks, Arsul also said he was not a career politician. Before entering politics as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives in 2014, he worked as a corporate lawyer.

"I happen to be a professional corporate lawyer and arbitrary and work as one of the directors of a multinational foreign investment company headquartered in Orlando, United States," he said.

Therefore, said Arsul, as a constitutional judge is a momentum to return to a closely monitored world.

Arsul Sani took an oath on Thursday at the State Palace, Jakarta.

The inauguration is based on the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 102 P of 2023 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of Constitutional Justices submitted by the DPR and set on October 24, 2023.

"By Allah, I swear that I will fulfill the obligations of the constitutional judge as well as possible and fairly as possible. Upholding the 1945 Constitution and carrying out all laws and regulations as straight as possible according to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, and serving Nusa and the Nation," said Arsul when taking the oath in front of President Jokowi.

The former senior politician from the United Development Party (PPP) was sworn in as a constitutional judge replacing Wahiduddin Adams who had entered retirement.
