The European Union Begins To Be Skrining Ukraine Before Entering As A Member

JAKARTA - The European Union will crack down on Ukrainian laws after the two begin to negotiate Ukraine's entry into the bloc of the region, the EU chairman said.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen before the European Parliament praised the European Union's decision to integrate Ukraine in the bloc. He praised Kiev' efforts to reform its democratic institutions.

He noted that within a few months, Ukraine had passed a law that expands national minority rights, improves the justice system and ensures "checks and balances" in power.

In order to prepare for talks on Ukraine's entry, said von der Leyen, "we have started the screening process and are currently drafting a negotiation framework."

He stressed the European Council had demonstrated a political desire to support Ukraine as long as necessary and the European Union had to support this decision with adequate funding.

The EU Council paved the way for the expansion of the 27-member bloc in December, announcing the start of negotiations on Ukraine and Moldova's entry into the bloc.

Russia launched a special military operation' in Ukraine nearly two years ago for what it called the demilitation' and denazification' of the former Soviet republic.

However, Western countries call it aggression and support Kiev through humanitarian, economic and military means.
