JAKARTA - The Iraqi government denounced Iran's attack on Erbil in northern Iraq, calling it an act of aggression and a violation of its sovereignty.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on their website that the Iraqi government "will pursue all legal procedures, including filing complaints to the UN Security Council" in response to Iran's attacks.

The attack was an "aggression against Iraqi sovereignty and the security of the Iraqi people, as well as a violation of the neighboring environment and regional security," the Foreign Ministry said as quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Tuesday, January 16.

The Foreign Ministry explained that the ministerial board had formed a committee, led by Iraqi national security advisers, to investigate the incident and gather relevant information to support government positions at the international level.

On Tuesday, January 16 morning, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it fired a series of ballistic missiles into "terrorist groups" positions in Syria and Iraq on Monday (15/1) night.

The IRGC claims to have "destroyed" the headquarters of Israel's Mossad spy agency in the Erbil region, northern Iraq.
