Yusril Had Been 'curred' By Firli Bahuri About Plans To Resign From The Chairman Of The KPK

JAKARTA - Constitutional Law expert, Yusril Ihza Mahendra said Firlli Bahuri had been 'curated' about the move to resign as Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission or the KPK.

This statement was made by Yusril after undergoing examination as a mitigating witness for Firli Bahuri who is a suspect in the alleged extortion or gratification case against the former Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

"Yes, I spoke (with Firli Bahuri), and the conversation he wanted to resign took a long time with me," Yusril told reporters, Monday, January 15.

In the conversation, Yusrl admitted that he had given input to Firli if he wanted to resign as Chairman of the KPK, it would be better to wait for the pretrial trial decision with the defendant Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto.

However, Firli Bahuri's response was not conveyed at that time. It was only conveyed if the former chairman of the KPK for the 2019-2023 period decided to resign as his position so as not to make conditions worse in Indonesia.

In fact, based on Yusril's narrative, Firli Bahuri did not have the slightest intention of revenge related to the alleged extortion or gratification case which now involves him.

"I said whether or not I should just wait for the pretrial decision, then declared a resignation. Yes, I don't want to make a fuss, let alone this wants an election. How can the situation be calm. I resigned, and there was no intention of revenge. Hopefully the problem will be resolved quickly, that's it," said Yusri.

Firli Bahuri has been dismissed to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) through the Ministry of State Secretary (Kemensetneg).

One of the reasons behind dismissing Firli Bahuri was the decision of the KPK Supervisory Board which was read out on Wednesday, December 27.

It is known that the KPK Council decided that Firli Bahuri violated three code of ethics. One of them, he was found guilty of meeting former Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo and was given severe sanctions, namely being asked to resign from his position.
