Police Asked To Take Action In Jokowi's Proposal For Impeachment

JAKARTA - As many as 100 figures who are members of the People's Sovereignty Enforcement have urged President Joko Widodo to be impeached. This pressure comes ahead of the 2024 General Election which will take place in one more month.

The pressure of the figures was conveyed when meeting with Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD. On that occasion, Mahfud considered it a matter of the DPR and political parties. The process must also go through various stages.

The Secretary of the Central State Defense Study at Bhayangkara University Jakarta, Djuni Thamrin, assessed that this incident was a political joke, where the actors did not understand state planning and statutory regulations.

"This is proof that our democracy is still immature," said Djuni in an official statement.

Djuni explained that elections are formal instruments of democracy. In its implementation must be placed and maintained with good ethics and mature democracy.

"We are carrying out the stages of the LUBER and democratic elections, so we cannot be disturbed by various political interruptions that have the potential to spark commotion and thwart the stages of the election that want to take off," he said.

Furthermore, Djuni said that the impeachment of the president is a political matter in the DPR that must follow the procedures that have been regulated. The work is the right of the DPR as a check and balance mechanism.

"So that it becomes the wrong room", the initiators complained and asked the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs to encourage the initiation of President Joko Widodo's impeachment," said Djuni.

Djuni conveyed that the presidential impeachment process required 2/3 of DPR members to approve the agenda and 2/3 of those present to vote.

"Now all members of the DPR at various levels are taking care of their respective fates to face the election contestation. So it is almost impossible to realize this pressure," he said.

On the other hand, Djuni said that the demands and impeachment agenda to be realized as a movement must be massive and become national attention, where the President is proven to have violated the oath or committed serious criminal acts or committed high-level corruption which must be impeached.

These demands must also be accompanied by strong initial evidence. Then need approval from 2/3 members of the DPR to make these demands forward to the next process.

"In this case, demands like today seem very 'garing' and seem to be a practical political commodity in a contestation. A certain kind of setting agenda for fried as often happens in every election," said Djuni.

Not only that, Djuni appealed to all parties to be aware that this political movement is not pure for corrections to the improvement of Indonesia's democracy in the future. But it is a political movement to 'do testing' on national stability.

The National Police has a responsibility to handle professionally this movement. If the election organizers and the person in charge of domestic security are careless, then this movement can outwit the people and disrupt domestic security," he said.

In fact, at certain levels it is predicted that it can disrupt the simultaneous elections that are being held for the first time in Indonesia. Thus, the Police are advised to immediately move quickly and show their credibility as security guards and domestic social order.

Preventive and preemptive efforts, continued Djuni, can be carried out by the National Police in handling cases of demands for the impeachment of President Jokowi. So that this movement does not have time to grow and expand and get broad support from other citizens.

"Currently, the National Police needs to accommodate intellectual groups that can provide academic arguments that support the tasks of the National Police which must be massively distributed by mass media and social media," he said.
