JAKARTA - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will chair a meeting on security on Saturday in Istanbul.

"Based on our presidential decree, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a security meeting will be held on Saturday, January 13 at 14.30 local time at the Dolmabahce Office in Istanbul," wrote state communications director Fahrettin Altun in X quoting Antara.

The development comes after six Turkish soldiers were killed in the PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) terror attack in northern Iraq.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of Home Affairs Ali Yerlikaya, Minister of National Defense Yasar Guler, Chief of General Staff of Metin Gurak and Head of National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Ibrahim Kalin will attend the meeting, said Altun.

Turkey launched Operation Constitution-Lock in April 2022 to target the hiding of the PKK terror organization in northern Methanina Iraq, the Zap and Avasin-Basyan areas near the Turkish border.

The operation has previously been preceded by Operations Constitution-Tiger and LAW-Eagle, which launched in 2020 to eradicate terrorists hiding in northern Iraq and planning cross-border attacks in Turkey.

In its more than 35-year terror act against Turkey, the PKK was behind the deaths of 40.000 people, including women, children and babies.

PKK is included in the list of terrorist organizations by Turkey, the United States, and the European Union.
