East Java Police Denies Allegations Of PDIP Secretary General Hasto Regarding Pressing Regional Heads In The Presidential Election

SURABAYA - The East Java Regional Police (Polda) denied allegations that they had pressured one of the regional heads from the PDI-P not to focus on supporting the presidential and vice presidential candidate pair number 3 Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD.

"What Mr. Hasto Kristiyanto (Secretary General of the PDI-P said was not true. The allegations were not true," said Head of Public Relations of the East Java Police, Kombes Dirmanto in Surabaya, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, January 12.

Dirmanto emphasized that all ranks of the East Java Regional Police remain committed to being neutral during the election process.

"In all stages of the election, the East Java Regional Police and their staff continue to maintain neutrality, so there is no support for candidate pairs. What is there is to keep the election running smoothly, safely, and peacefully," said Dirmanto.

He said that in the success of the election, the East Java Regional Police had tried to take steps according to the provisions so that conduciveness in East Java was maintained.

"We have carried out a lot of efforts to succeed in the election and in accordance with the main tasks of the function of the Police," he said.

Until now, the East Java Regional Police have also implemented 15 Declarations of Peaceful Elections.

The declaration was also attended by various elements of society including all political parties, community leaders, religious leaders, academics and even from the media.

"This is one of the commitments of the East Java Regional Police to realize safe and peaceful elections, besides that we are also intensely carrying out patrols on vital objects," he said.

In addition, Kombes Dirmanto also emphasized that the issue of entrepreneurs in East Java being pressured by the security forces when they wanted to support one of the candidate pairs was also not true.

"I emphasize that the issue is not true, and there is no emphasis from us regarding supporting the pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates," he said.

East Java Police Chief Inspector General Imam Sugianto, he said, had emphasized all personnel from the East Java Regional Police and the Resort Police Chiefs in his ranks to maintain neutrality.

"What is there is that the East Java Regional Police continue to be committed to being neutral in the 2024 election, and continue to strive to create peaceful and safe elections as ordered by the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo," he said.
