Minister Trenggono Admits He Is Overwhelmed By The Ministry Of Maritime Affairs And Fisheries, Here's What He Says

JAKARTA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono admitted that he was overwhelmed to handle the main work in his ministry.

The reason is, Trenggono assesses that his job as Minister of KP is not enough for just 24 hours because of the wide scope of work he carries.

"I want to convey that the main work of the KKP is still so wide, so 24 hours is not enough. I thought it was simple when I was told to become a minister, it wasn't. So the deeper it was, the deeper it was immediately seen all the bones, "oh, the branches are here," said Minister Trenggono at a press conference. Outlook & Priority Program for the Marine and Fisheries Sector at the KKP Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 10.

Trenggono recounted that one of his experiences during his time as Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, namely when meeting government colleagues abroad, such as in Europe, Japan, and China.

He admitted that at that time he immediately found criticism about how to catch fishery products in Indonesia.

"I did benchmarking, but there are questions that criticize me when I talk to the European Union Trade Attache. In fact, even one fish cannot be exported to Europe. Meanwhile, we import salmon," he said.

"Why can't we export there, it turns out that in Japan I got the information because the way the arrests in Indonesia are still barbaric. Oh my, I was silent and so embarrassed," he continued.

According to Trenggono, the arrest of fishery products in the country is still not based on the level of demand or demand.

So, he continued, fishermen are used to capturing all types of fisheries without considering the quality.

"It is true that our fishing method is barbaric. Overseas arrests are based on the level of demand and they already know what types of fish the market needs. So that when he (the fishermen) landed, everything had been sold. If in (Indonesia) no, all fish were taken, the important thing is fish," he said.

Trenggono added that the impact of the barbaric capture would slowly result in the wealth of marine biota running out.

"The impact is not now. A long time for sure (increasing) our biota will run out. This is then the underlying (KKP) for the past two years designing a policy to maintain our marine biota and maintain our fish population well," he said.
