Anies Mentions Jakarta Flood Delivered, Bima Arya: Local Factors Are More Dominant

JAKARTA - Mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya Sugiarto, emphasized that the cause of the flooding that occurred in Jakarta was not due to water sent from his area. The Jakarta flood, called Bima Arya, is also affected by local high-intensity rain.

This statement was delivered by Bima Arya in response to the statement of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan regarding the causes of flooding due to the delivered water.

"Local factors are more dominant," Bima Arya told VOI, Monday, February 22.

Bima Arya mentioned the condition of the water discharge at the Katulampa Dam. If the status of the Katulampa Dam is alert 1, then Jakarta will be flooded

However, this condition called Bima Arya did not occur last weekend. According to him, Katulampa Dam condition is alert 3.

"If Katulampa has an alert height of 1, it is likely that Jakarta will be flooded in 8 hours. Due to the large volume of water heading for Jakarta. But yesterday Katulampa is only on alert 3. Jakarta should not have been flooded," he said.

Therefore, Bima Arya highlighted the water management system which is also the cause of flooding in Jakarta.

"This is where the water management system in Jakarta determines," he said.

DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan previously said that the floods that occurred on Sudirman Street, Kemang Raya Street, Widya Chandra Street, and Tendean Street were caused by the overflow of Krukut River.

"So the rainfall that occurs in the upstream area of the Krukut River which crosses Jendral Sudirman Street. In the upstream area, the rainfall is very high, recorded at 136 mm/day," said Anies, Saturday, February 20.

Anies said that Krukut River was overflowing because it accommodated additional water discharge from local rain from the Depok area, West Java. This means that additional water discharge is not from local rain in the Kemang area or Sudirman Street, but from the area between the upstream and Jakarta.

"The water passes through two rivers, first is Mampang and second is Krukut. The two streams meet behind LIPI, then flow to Sudirman. So the condition now is the impact of water sent from the central area around Depok," said Anies.

According to Anies, usually, if water comes from the Bogor area (first upstream), the water will pass through the Ciliwung River. Meanwhile, Krukut River flows water coming from the central area, namely Depok.

"Usually if it rains in the mountains (in the Bogor area) the water will pass through the Ciliwung River, but if there is heavy rain in the central area (around Depok) then it passes to the middle stream, namely the Krukut River," said Anies.
