JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin welcomes the opportunity for Indonesia's cooperation with Vietnam regarding the provision of halal certification.

This was conveyed by the Vice President in response to reporters' questions about the wishes of the Vietnamese Government, through the Vietnam Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong some time ago, to cooperate with Indonesia regarding the provision of halal certification.

"I think we will respond to Vietnam's desire," said the Vice President on the sidelines of a working visit in Yogyakarta as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 9.

The vice president said there are two possible collaborations that can be established between Indonesia and Vietnam regarding halal certification.

"Are they just a kind of management institution, whose certification is in Indonesia. Or also they have an institution up to their own certification, (while) we (who) provide guidance and recognition," said the Vice President.

The vice president stated that he would encourage the Vietnamese government to communicate with the Halal Product Guarantee Administration Agency (BPJPH) in Indonesia.

"I ask that later be in contact with BPJPH in Indonesia," said the Vice President.

The Vice President emphasized that BPJPH is an institution that applies halal standards in Indonesia, which provides assistance not only for domestic purposes but also abroad.

According to the Vice President, in the context of foreign cooperation, Indonesia has various forms of cooperation in the field of sharia in a number of countries.

"We have institutions, in Korea the name is 'This is Halal Korea', the RRT that I visited yesterday in Shanghai is called 'Al-Amin'. This is an institution that manages halal but certificates from Indonesia and some have certificates (determined) locally," he explained.

In the technical handling of halal certification, the Vice President said that Vietnam could propose a form of cooperation as desired, which would later be adjusted to the interests of the two countries.

Previously, Vietnam's Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong said that currently the Vietnamese government is developing a strategy to develop the halal export industry, both in the form of food products, services and other products.

Van Thong explained that the Vietnamese government is also trying to cooperate with the Indonesian government to issue halal certificates for the Vietnamese industry.
