Jimly Adiddiqie Otimistics 3 New MKMK Members Can Restore Public Trust In The Constitutional Court

JAKARTA - Former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Jimly Adiddiqie assessed that the three new members of the Honorary Council of the Constitutional Court (MKMK) are permanent to regain public trust in the state institution guarding the constitution.

"I am grateful that the person chosen to be a member of the MKMK is the right person," said Jimly when met in Jakarta, Monday, January 8, quoted by Antara.

According to him, the capacity of the three permanent MKMK members is unquestionable because they have a long track record in the field of law enforcement in the country.

The election of constitutional judge Ridwan Mansyur, public figure I of Gede Palguna, and academic at Andalas University Yuliandri in MKMK membership, is believed to increase the strength of the other nine Constitutional Court judges in reversing negative sentiments attached to the institution.

"I am optimistic that the Constitutional Court will be trusted by the public again, plus now three figures are very appropriate," he said.

Jimly, who is also the former chairman of the MKMK, called on all parties to end the polemic and stop the bad narratives about the Constitutional Court to make the 2024 General Election a success.

"Let's stop the negative narrative which many refer to the Constitutional Court as the Family Court on social media. I invite all people to shift their focus on attention to make the 2024 General Election a success," he said.

Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Suhartoyo officially inaugurated three permanent members of the MKMK, namely judge Ridwan Mansyur, community leader I Gede Palguna, and academic University Andalas Yuliandri.

"We should be grateful that this afternoon we were able to witness the oath of oath from members of the Honorary Council of the Permanent Constitutional Court," Suhartoyo said while reading his remarks at the inauguration of permanent MKMK members at the Constitutional Court Building, Jakarta, Monday.

The three were sworn in based on Decree Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Establishment and Membership of the Honorary Council of the Constitutional Court 2024 dated January 2, 2024.

They will carry out their duties as members of the MKMK from January 8 to December 31, 2024.
