Alexander Marwata Is Ready To Attend If Firli Needs Information As A Vulnerable Witness In Court

Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Alexander Marwata said he was ready to give a statement in court if it was submitted by former KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri to the panel of judges.

This was conveyed by Alexander Marwata when asked about his refusal to be a mitigating witness in the investigation of alleged extortion or acceptance of gratuities that ensnared Firli Bahuri. He said this rejection was made because the information presented in the process would be stated in the investigation report (BAP).

This process is different from when he was a witness to relieve Firli at the South Jakarta District Court (PN) some time ago. At that time, his colleague filed a pretrial to challenge his status as a suspect.

"When in pretrial there is no need for investigators to be BAPed. So immediately give information during the trial," Alexander said when confirmed by reporters, Friday, January 5.

Even so, Alexander admitted that he was ready to testify in court if Firli filed himself as a mitigating witness when the extortion case was tried. "In principle, I don't mind," he said.

As previously reported, Firli has appointed three names to replace Alexander who refuses to be a mitigating witness. They are legal experts, Romli Atmasasmita; Yusril Ihza Mahendra; and Suparji Ahmad.

However, the three of them refused even though their names had been submitted to Polda Metro Jaya investigators through a letter numbered 251/IISPA/XII/2023 on December 20. Currently, Firli's camp is looking for a new figure who could be a witness to relieve Firli in the case of extortion or receiving gratuities from former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo.
