IPW: The Arrest Of Ibra Azhari's Artist Continues To Repeat Because Of The Broken System

JAKARTA - Old artist Ibrahim Azhari or Ibra Azhari, has been repeatedly arrested by the police for drug cases. Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) stated that the poor system that existed made Ibra Azhari unable to protect himself from drug dependence.

"He is a victim of a system that cannot protect him. The system includes himself, the environment, security forces who have never succeeded in stopping the circulation," said Chairman of Indonesia Police Watch (IPW), Sugeng Teguh Santoso to VOI, Friday, January 5.

Although Ibra Azhari is often arrested for drug cases, the crimes given to him do not deter Ibra. The threat of imprisonment is high, it turns out that it has no effect and Ibra Azhari remains a heavy addict.

"The first principle is like this. Users, whether they are artists or ordinary people, if they are users, they are victims. They want 6 or 7 times (arrested) they are victims of a system that cannot protect them," he said.

Sugeng said that Ibra Azhari was a victim of drug abuse, he had to undergo rehabilitation.

"As a victim, how many times will he be affected, he must be rehabilitated. That's why he repeatedly uses it. So this is the victim, the user is the victim," he said.

IPW assessed that the handling of drug cases was not sufficient through criminal threats. In fact, apart from not having a significant effect on reducing the number of drugs, the crime is also a burden on the state.

In fact, the number of perpetrators who were convicted did not give up and was repeated.

"(handling) cannot be criminalized, because it does not solve the problem. The crime has even become a burden on the state (because) it must detain (drug users) in prisons," he said.

As is known, an opposing film artist named Ibrahim Azhari alias IA was again arrested by the West Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Unit in early 2024 for a drug abuse case, Friday, January 5.
