Beware, Motorcycles Use Brong Exhausts When Campaigns Can Be Imprisoned

SEMARANG - Central Java Police strictly prohibit the use of vehicles with Brong exhaust during the open campaign period for the 2024 General Election which starts on January 21 to February 10, 2024.

It was stated that the ban on the use of Brong exhaust by campaign participants would be included in the permit for the implementation of the campaign by political parties issued by the police.

"It will be stated in the permit, this will also be conveyed by the Directorate of Intelligence and Security to the leaders of political parties (in Central Java)," said Head of Public Relations of the Central Java Police, Kombes Satake Bayu, in a written statement, Thursday, January 4, 2024.

The Central Java Regional Police will conduct socialization and control of brong exhaust vehicles through the Ditlantas ranks and Polres ranks in their area.

Responding to this, the Director of Traffic and Traffic (Dirlantas) of the Central Java Police, Kombes Police Sonny Irawan, said that the ban on Brong Exhaust during the 2024 general election campaign period was purely due to the professional aspect in law enforcement.

According to him, the ban on the use of Brong exhaust during the campaign can be reviewed from two aspects, namely the legal aspect and sociological aspect.

"The Brong exhaust when used for the Campaign is feared to have other impacts so we ask the masses (of the campaign) not to use the brong campaign," he explained.

From the legal aspect, he continued, it has been regulated in Article 48 concerning noise, Article 64 concerning vehicle eligibility, Article 210 regarding vehicle eligibility standards and Article 285 concerning criminal sanctions in the form of imprisonment for one month.

There are also rules from other institutions such as the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number P.56 of 2019 concerning the Quality of Noise in New Type Motor Vehicles and Motorized Vehicles that are currently being produced in Category M, Category N, and Category L.

"In the regulation, for example, 80 cc vehicles are 70 decibels, 120 ccs and 140cc are 80 decibels. We have tools to measure them. Well, the Brong exhaust exceeds the specified exhaust," he explained.

He continued, the ban on Brong exhaust was also seen from a sociological approach where the Brong exhaust interfered with the order and comfort of the road users.

"In addition, Brong exhaust can cause pollution and provoke social conflict. This case has occurred in Magelang and Pati, there have been group clashes due to Brong exhaust. So there are legal aspects, sociological aspects are also there. And this is what we must socialize together with the community, why is Brong exhaust prohibited from using it," he said.
